The Second China-CEEC Ministerial Conference on Environmental Protection Cooperation Was Held

Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, delivered a speech at the Second China-CEEC Ministerial Conference on Environmental Protection Cooperation on February 25th. He pointed out that China is willing to build consensus and work together with Central and Eastern European countries, continue to explore the potential of cooperation mechanisms, promote the coordinated governance for climate change and biodiversity conservation, deepen pragmatic cooperation in the green field, and jointly create a bright future for green development between China and Central and Eastern European countries.

On February 25th, the second China-CEEC Ministerial Conference on Environmental Protection Cooperation was held by video. Representatives of environmental authorities from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia attended the meeting.

Huang Runqiu pointed out that the cooperation for eco-environmental conservation cooperation is becoming an important area of cooperation between China and Central and Eastern European countries. In 2021, taking the “Year of Green Development and Environmental Protection” as an opportunity, China and Central and Eastern European countries held a series of activities in the fields of clean energy, forestry economic development, green people-to-people and cultural exchanges and industrial connection, and have achieved fruitful results. With the theme of “Nature-based Solutions to Help Carbon Neutrality”, this conference shared the ecological and environmental protection policies and experience of China and Central and Eastern European countries, and further exchanged views on future cooperation fields. It is in line with the current world development trend and is very meaningful.

Huang Runqiu emphasized that the Chinese government attaches great importance to green and low-carbon development and eco-environmental protection, vigorously promotes comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development, continues to fight the battle against pollution, effectively strengthens the protection and restoration of ecosystems, and strives to build modernization where man and nature coexist in harmony. Upholding the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, China has actively promoted the construction of global ecological civilization, successfully held the first phase of the 15th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15), actively carried out international cooperation in addressing climate change, and contributed Chinese wisdom and Chinese solutions to global environmental governance.

The participants spoke highly of the China-CEEC Environmental Protection Cooperation Mechanism, shared policies and practices in addressing climate change and protecting biodiversity, and expressed their willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in the field of addressing climate change, biodiversity protection, green environmental technology industries, etc.
