Circular bio-economy based on renewable resources provides a new solution to address the challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, environmental pollution and to tap the potential of natural resources. Forests are the largest productive renewable resources on land, containing a great potential to contribute to bioeconomy. China and Central and Eastern European countries have their own characteristics in forest resources, forestry industrial structure and market. Highly valuing the sustainable management and utilization of forest resources, China and CEE countries have a large potential for cooperation in forest bioeconomy development.
“The role of forests and forest-based industry in bioeconomy” is chosen as the theme of the Third High-Level Meeting of the Coordination Mechanism for Cooperation in Forestry between China and CEEC (17+1), which will be held on 2 June 2021 virtually. To provide technical support for the Third High-level Meeting, the Executive Coordinating Body of 17+1 Forestry Cooperation, in cooperation with China and Greece, will hold an Online Seminar with the theme of “Forest Bioeconomy Development and Cooperation of China-CEEC” on 20 April 2021. The seminar will focus on sharing related strategy, policy, practices and case studies of forest bioeconomy, and discussing the possible priority areas and mechanism in forestry bio-economy cooperation, to provide policy recommendations for the output of the upcoming Third High-level Meeting to be held on 2 June.
