Czech Republic Exports Large Quantities of Wood to China

Reported by the website e15.cz on July 29, the number of logs exported from Czech Republic to China has increased dramatically this year. In January-May alone, more than 350,000 tons of timber were sold to China, almost tripling that of last year, with exports of nearly 1.1 billion kroner (about $48 million). According to the Czech Bureau of Statistics, China became its second largest wood export destination after Germany this year.

The report points out that Czech timber exporters expressed their satisfaction on trading with China, and the forestry department says that China has a large market demand and the two countries have broad prospects for cooperation.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Agriculture of Czech expressed their hope of expanding timber exports, including to China, in response to the excess logging caused by forest pests.
